Indian and Belgian Prime Ministers Meet
India has called for cooperation between institutions between the Antwerp World Diamond Centre. This is mostly for the areas of gemstone and diamond grading and sorting, development and research, cutting, polishing, and certification.

India’s Minister of Commerce, Industry and Textiles, Anand Sharma, met with Belgian Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, and European Affairs, Didier Reynders. The meeting took place Thursday in New Delhi. The goal of the discussion was to talk about bilateral trade.

In the meeting Sharma spoke positively about the scope of AWDS’s training programs and the courses they have available in gemology. Sharma said that the skills will enhance the capacity of manufacturers as well as overall productivity of the sector.

The Prime Ministers both agreed that life and health sciences are a key area of cooperation. Sharma expressed joy over the growing amount of investment and trade between the two countries. Both parties expressed that there is room for improvement. However, the future of trade in the diamond and gemstone industry appears to be good for both countries. There will continue to be production of high quality diamonds for diamond jewellery.
